Pumpkin for the Face?

pumpkin-facial-maskNovember is here, which means the holiday season is just around the corner. By now most people have thrown out their Jack-O-Lanterns; however, there is still plenty of time to enjoy the festive winter squash, known as the pumpkin.  You may think of using a pumpkin to bake a delicious pie or, perhaps, to create a beautiful dining room centerpiece.  But did you know that the pumpkin can provide great benefits to your skin?

Pumpkin contains natural enzymes. Enzymes are responsible for many cellular processes. Old skin cells shed away naturally from the epidermis within three weeks of surfacing, but as we age, this regenerating process gradually decreases.   Pumpkin enzymes help the rejuvenation process of the skin by exfoliating the skin, smoothing skin texture, refining the pores and improving product penetration.  This makes pumpkin a gentler alternative to a chemical peel.

Pumpkin is also wonderful because it is loaded with antioxidants. Throughout our lives, we are exposed to free radicals—through polluted air, environmental toxins, stress, and lackluster diets—and those cause damage to our skin cells.  The zinc in pumpkin seeds is brilliant for acne sufferers.  Zinc will help control the hormone level and oil production, as well as assist with healing of the skin.  Finally, pumpkin seeds are high in essential fatty acids and Vitamin E, which are necessary to maintain good barrier function of the skin.

Now that you know all of the wonderful things pumpkin can do for your skin, consider adding on our seasonal Pumpkin Enzyme Mask to any of our luxurious facials for just $20.  Our seasonal Pumpkin Enzyme Mask is only available for a limited time, so book now to take advantage!

Kick Those Allergies This Fall

Summer has come to an end and Fall is definitely “in the air”. For some, this means cooler temperatures, changing leaves, and all things pumpkin!  However, for the thirty-something million Americans who suffer from allergies, the change in season will also bring about sneezing, sniffling, and itchy eyes, more commonly known as hay fever.

Ragweed is a sturdy annual that can produce billions of pollen grains that become airborne and can travel great distances for long periods of time. This allergen’s season is now in full effect, reeking havoc and thus being the main culprit for hay fever and other allergy symptoms. When treating allergies, most people turn to medications like antihistamines, nasal sprays, and decongestants. But those aren’t the only options available.

For those who prefer a more holistic approach, consider one of our following spa treatments:

Aromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy has been used for centuries to alter a person’s mood and health. Eucalyptus oil is an excellent essential oil for battling allergies. When inhaled and/or applied, the oil can be a great decongestant.  Eucalyptus oil is basically a natural vapor rub. It also contains anti-viral and anti-septic properties, making it a popular choice for many home remedies.

All About Me Facial

The steam used in this treatment softens the skin and opens the pores, but is nice for soothing the sinuses as well. The light facial massage will not only feel amazing, but relieve sinus pressure, too.

Luminous Eye Treatment

The soothing gel mask combined with chilled eye pads will treat puffy eyes caused by allergies.

Back to School, Beautiful You

Starting a new school year can be daunting.  Making new friends, meeting new teachers, and homework are all pretty stressful.  The last thing any teen wants to worry about is acne!  The smallest pimple can seem like the end of the world to a teenager because acne can effect self-esteem.  If you’re a teenager dealing with acne, here are a few very effective tips that will make breakouts one less worry:

Avoid Picking

Picking can increase inflammation and the chances of scarring.

Cleanse Gently

Dirty skin is only a small part of what may be causing a breakout.  There is no need to over cleanse your skin.  Use a “sensitive skin” formula vs. an “acne cleanser” because the latter may be too drying.

Try A Salicylic Acid Treatment

Fighting acne is all about figuring out what works for you and your skin.  Salicylic Acid is a common acne fighting ingredient and a great starting point.  It’s a derivative of aspirin, which makes it a great anti-inflammatory.

Moisturize

This step is important because most teens fear that moisturizers will cause excess oil.  However, in conjunction with acne fighting products, moisturizers create a balance.  Acne products can make skin vulnerable to the harsh sun rays, so moisturizers with SPF 15 or higher are ideal.

If these tips helped you, feel free to share them with your friends and family.  As always, call the spa for an appointment at (210) 372-0700.
